Hercules 1KG ABC Dry powder fire extinguisher is commonly used on vehicles such as forklifts, passenger vehicles as well as homes. With its light weight and ergonomic curved handle, operation has never been easier. Small yet powerful, it is the definitive choice for incipient fires.
Equipped with a rubber cap, the risk of insects building their nests in the nozzle is greatly reduced. This allows the fire extinguisher to work as it should when required.
In Singapore, this fire extinguisher is also known as AB Dry Powder Singapore Fire Extinguisher.
Where can I use this fire extinguisher?
The Hercules 1KG ABC Dry Powder fire extinguisher is the perfect solution for tiny fires. Its size and weight makes it easy even for children to handle though we don’t quite recommend it as fires can be dangerous and unpredictable. With its small form, it can be stored easily in the kitchen or living room without being too much of an obstacle to movement. It can also be stored in most vehicle glove compartments.
When asked for our recommendations for home use, we usually suggest Hercules 2KG ABC Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher , Hercules 4KG ABC Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher or Hercules 2L Foam Fire Extinguisher.
The 2KG Hercules Dry powder fire extinguisher has twice as much dry powder while the size and weight are very similar. Having more dry powder allows for a greater margin of error and a longer reaction time which makes it much easier to eliminate a larger fire. This is the choice most people opt for.
The 4KG Hercules Dry powder fire extinguisher is noticeably larger in size but is actually only 9.4KG. A 2 year old child is approximately the weight of 10-12KG so most adults can definitely carry a 4KG with reasonable ease. The main advantage of the 4KG Hercules Dry Powder Fire extinguisher is the larger capacity of dry powder and a hose which allows you to aim the discharge easily.
The 2L Hercules Foam Fire Extinguisher is the lightest of its range and it has been tested to be able to put residential kitchen fires safely. Kitchen fires remain the top cause of residential fires. While the dry power fire extinguisher may be able to put out some small kitchen fires, the Hercules 2L Foam Fire extinguisher is guaranteed to be able to eliminate even deep fryer fires which the dry powder fire extinguisher may have trouble handling. Only the 2L Hercules foam fire extinguisher has been tested to be able to eliminate class F kitchen fires.
If the intended use of the fire extinguisher is for commercial use of low occupation hazard, then we recommend the use of a Hercules 2KG ABC Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher. It will meet the Singapore Fire Code requirements of 13A Fire rating.
What type of fire can I use this fire extinguisher for?
Meticulously tested in laboratories, the Hercules fire extinguisher is capable of eliminating:
Class A fires which are combustible materials such as wood, tires, furniture, plastics, etc.
Class B fires which are flammable liquids such as paint, thinner, petrol, etc.
Class C fires which are flammable gases such as LPG.*
Class E fires which are electrical fires but do not include lithium battery fires.*
*A key point to note is that SCDF is educating the public on NOT to directly using fire extinguishers on class C and E fires. C and E fires will reignite almost immediately as heat is still being generated. This is why the first step of eliminating a Class C or E fire is to turn off the source by shutting off the gas or electrical supply. If there is still a fire, the fire is likely to be a class A or B fire which will be much easier to put out as compared to a C or E fire. This is also why class C are class E logos are no longer permitted on new fire extinguishers.
How to use a fire extinguisher?
Before you use a fire extinguisher, always ensure you have an escape route. If you have to use a fire extinguisher, do so at a safe distance. When in doubt, always choose to run. Even professional fire fighters in full fire resistant suits have been trained to never put their own lives at risk.
Always remember PASS. You can also read the instruction label on the fire extinguisher.
|1. Pull the safety pin
|2. Aim at the base of the fire

How to use a fire extinguisher for car fires?
If the intended use is for car fires, take extra caution as car fires are very hard to handle even for SCDF. Car fires happen because of poor electrical wiring. As a result, when you accelerate, a great amount of heat and smoke is generated. The horrible smell of smoke is the first cue that a car fire is about to happen.
1. When you smell smoke, immediately turn on your hazard lights and safely stop by the side of the road.
2. Turn off the vehicle and grab your fire extinguisher.
3. Open up the bonnet and raise it up very slowly. Raising up the bonnet too quickly may instead give the fire more oxygen to grow bigger.
4. If a fire or smoke has appeared, immediately fully discharge the fire extinguisher without hesitation.
In the event if the fire extinguisher did not put out the fire, no matter how small it looks, call SCDF immediately. The fire can and will grow big quickly.
How do I maintain a fire extinguisher?
According to the Singapore Fire Code, all non-personal use fire extinguishers must be maintained annually by a trained technician of a workshop registered with SCDF. You are able to make an appointment with Fire Armour to service your fire extinguishers.
For personal use fire extinguishers, owners can check the fire extinguisher’s pressure gauge. When the needle is pointed to the green zone, it allows the owner to know that the fire extinguisher is generally in good working condition.
Does this fire extinguisher expire?
Fire extinguishers do not expire like food. Every 5 years, fire extinguishers are to undergo a full pressure test. In theory, if the fire extinguisher were to undergo a full pressure test every 5 years and assuming it has been kept in a reasonably clean environment, it can last indefinitely. However, this is rare in reality as it is simply more economical to purchase a new piece every 5 years.
As SCDF requires all fire extinguishers to be maintained annually, a one year expiry sticker is affixed to every fire extinguisher that we sell. When the date has lapsed, it does not mean that the fire extinguisher has to be disposed. Instead, simply bring it to us here to service your fire extinguishers and the expiry date can be extended. This rule does not affect fire extinguisher that are for personal use.
