AFFF Foam Fire Extinguisher
Understanding the importance of your safety, Fire Armour presents the premium Hercules Foam Fire Extinguishers, a product of rigorous testing and meticulous design. Specifically engineered to combat fires effectively, these extinguishers epitomise our commitment to bringing you the best fire-fighting solutions in Singapore. The unique working mechanism of our extinguishers — cooling the flames and creating a thin aqueous film over the fuel surface – plays a crucial role in separating the fuel from its oxygen supply. This innovative approach ensures rapid fire extinguishment, preventing any chances of reignition.
Hercules Foam Fire extinguishers work by cooling the fires and creating a thin aqueous film which spreads quickly on the fuel surface separating the fuel from oxygen supply. Without oxygen, the fire cannot reignite and will die out rapidly.
What Type of Fire Can I Use This Fire Extinguisher For?
Meticulously tested in laboratories, the Hercules foam fire extinguisher is capable of eliminating:
Class A fires which are combustible materials such as wood, tires, furniture, plastics, etc.
Class B fires which are flammable liquids such as paint, thinner, petrol, etc.
Class E fires which are electrical fires.*
Class F kitchen fires (For wet chemical fire extinguishers)
*A key point to note is that SCDF is educating the public on NOT to directly use foam fire extinguishers on class E fires. E fires will reignite almost immediately as heat is still being generated. This is why the first step of eliminating a Class E fire is to turn off the source by shutting off the gas or electrical supply. If there is still a fire, the fire is likely to be a class A or B fire which will be much easier to put out as compared to a E fire. This is also why class E logos are no longer permitted on new fire extinguishers.
How to Use a Foam Fire Extinguishers
Before you use a foam fire extinguisher, always ensure you have an escape route. If you have to use a foam fire extinguisher, do so at a safe distance. When in doubt, always choose to run. Even professional fire fighters in full fire resistant suits have been trained to never put their own lives at risk.
Always remember PASS. You can also read the instruction label on the fire extinguisher.

2. Aim at the base of the fire | ||
3. Squeeze the lever | ||
4. Sweep side to side. If safe to do so, discharge and move slowly towards the fire. |
How to Use a Fire Extinguisher for Car Fires?
If the intended use is for car fires, take extra caution as car fires are very hard to handle even for SCDF. Car fires happen because of poor electrical wiring. As a result, when you accelerate, a great amount of heat and smoke is generated. The horrible smell of smoke is the first cue that a car fire is about to happen.
- When you smell smoke, immediately turn on your hazard lights and safely stop by the side of the road.
- Turn off the vehicle and grab your fire extinguisher.
- Open up the bonnet and raise it up very slowly. Raising up the bonnet too quickly may instead give the fire more oxygen to grow bigger.
- If a fire or smoke has appeared, immediately fully discharge the foam fire extinguisher without hesitation.
In the event if the foam fire extinguisher did not put out the fire, no matter how small it looks, call SCDF immediately. The fire can and will grow big quickly.
How To Do Maintenance For Foam Fire Extinguishers?
According to the Singapore Fire Code, all non-personal use foam fire extinguishers must be maintained annually by a trained technician of a workshop registered with SCDF. You are able to make an appointment with Fire Armour to service your fire extinguishers.
For personal use fire extinguishers, owners can check the foam fire extinguisher’s pressure gauge. When the needle is pointed to the green zone, it allows the owner to know that the fire extinguisher is generally in good working condition.
Do Foam Fire Extinguishers Expire
Fire extinguishers do not expire like food. Every 5 years, Foam fire extinguishers are to undergo a full pressure test. In theory, if the fire extinguisher were to undergo a full pressure test every 5 years and assuming it has been kept in a reasonably clean environment, it can last indefinitely. However, this is rare in reality as it is simply more economical to purchase a new piece every 5 years.
As SCDF requires all fire extinguishers to be maintained annually, a one year expiry sticker is affixed to every foam fire extinguisher that we sell. When the date has lapsed, it does not mean that the fire extinguisher has to be disposed. Instead, simply bring it to service your fire extinguisher, and the expiry date can be extended. This rule does not affect fire extinguishers that are for personal use.
Which Foam Fire Extinguisher should I use?
If the intended use is for commercial buildings, we recommend using the Hercules 9L Foam Fire Extinguisher. In particular, areas which contain a large amount of flammable liquids should have coverage from a large number of 9L foam fire extinguisher.
Kitchen fires require a class F rating, which means the Hercules 6L Wet Chemical Kitchen Fire Extinguishers will be needed. With its 75F Class rating, it can put out the toughest deep fryer fires. Also, with its long applicator, it is possible to put out the fires from a safe distance.
Which Fire Extinguisher is Recommended for Home Use?
Foam fire extinguishers are particularly useful for tackling flammable liquid fires, such as gasoline or oil-based fires. The foam forms a blanket-like barrier, smothering the flames and preventing re-ignition. Additionally, foam fire extinguishers are safe to use on electrical fires, making them a versatile choice for home fire safety.
When it comes to recommending fire extinguishers for home use, we typically suggest the Hercules 2KG ABC Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher, Hercules 4KG ABC Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher or Hercules 2L Foam Fire Extinguisher.
The 2KG Hercules Dry Powder Fire extinguisher contains twice the amount of dry powder compared to other options, while its size and weight remain quite similar. Having more dry powder provides a greater margin of error and allows for a longer reaction time, making it much easier to eliminate a larger fire. This is the choice most people opt for.
The 4KG Hercules Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher is noticeably larger in size but is actually only 9.4KG. A 2 year old child is approximately the weight of 10-12KG so most adults can definitely carry a 4KG with reasonable ease. The main advantage of the 4KG Hercules Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher is the larger capacity of dry powder and a hose, which allows you to aim the discharge easily.
