Description
The NST Expansion Ring Fire Hose coupling comes with American National Standard Threads or NST for short. These connections are also known among the American firemen as the fire hose couplings or FH couplings. For simplicity, NST = FH connection. There are male and female versions of these couplings. Only the male can fit into the female version. The male version of the NST expansion ring coupling is identified by exposed thread as seen in the picture.
The raised ridges on the side of the coupling are also known as rocker lugs. These rocker lugs allow the spanners to grip onto the coupling and release or connect couplings together.
Majority of the fire hoses are binded to the coupling using a tensioned steel wire with the help of a hose binding machine. The NST expansion ring fire coupling works on a different principle.
A metal ring is inserted into the open end of the coupling. With a help of a machine, this ring is forcibly expanded to hold the fire hose in place. This is also why this particular coupling is known as NST “expansion ring” coupling
Made with rust resistant brass alloy.
