Description

The 4KG dry powder fire extinguisher is the optimum solution for medium occupation hazard areas. It is capable of eliminating the toughest fires in the most hostile environments. With a fire rating of 27A, it exceeds the requirements of 21A fire rating for medium occupation hazard areas. While both the 3KG and 4KG Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers meet the 21A fire rating for medium occupation hazard, most will choose to purchase the 4KG as it has a hose that allows the first responder to better aim at fires.

Medium occupation hazard areas include areas where the amount of combustibles or flammable liquids present is such that fires of moderate size may be expected and these may include storage and display area, motor showrooms, covered car parks, light industry premises, warehouses not classified as high hazard, shopping areas, laboratories, small painting areas and commercial kitchens. These occupancies consist of fire hazards that only occasionally contain Class A combustible materials beyond normal anticipated furnishings, and/or the total quantity of Class B flammables typically expected to be present is from 5 litres to 20 litres in any room or area.

Equipped with a rubber cap, the risk of insects building their nests in the nozzle is greatly reduced. This allows the fire extinguisher to work as it should when required.

In Singapore, this fire extinguisher is also known as AB Dry Powder Singapore Fire Extinguisher.

Where can I use this fire extinguisher?

The Hercules 4KG ABC Dry Powder fire extinguisher is the perfect solution for medium sized industrial fires. With a fire rating of 27A, it exceeds the requirements of 21A fire rating for medium occupation hazard areas.

What type of fire can I use this fire extinguisher for?

Meticulously tested in laboratories, the Hercules fire extinguisher is capable of eliminating:

Class-A-Fire Class A
Class A fires which are combustible materials such as wood, tires, furniture, plastics, etc.
Class-B-Fire Class B
Class B fires which are flammable liquids such as paint, thinner, petrol, etc.
Class-C-Fire Class C
Class C fires which are flammable gases such as LPG.*
Class-E-Fire Class E
Class E fires which are electrical fires but do not include lithium battery fires.*

*A key point to note is that SCDF is educating the public on NOT to directly using fire extinguishers on class C and E fires. C and E fires will reignite almost immediately as heat is still being generated. This is why the first step of eliminating a Class C or E fire is to turn off the source by shutting off the gas or electrical supply. If there is still a fire, the fire is likely to be a class A or B fire which will be much easier to put out as compared to a C or E fire. This is also why class C are class E logos are no longer permitted on new fire extinguishers.

How to use a fire extinguisher?

Before you use a fire extinguisher, always ensure you have an escape route. If you have to use a fire extinguisher, do so at a safe distance. When in doubt, always choose to run. Even professional fire fighters in full fire resistant suits have been trained to never put their own lives at risk.

Always remember PASS. You can also read the instruction label on the fire extinguisher.

Fire-Extinguisher-Pass-Pull 1. Pull the safety pin
Fire-Extinguisher-Pass-Aim 2. Aim at the base of the fire
Fire-Extinguisher-Pass-Squeeze 3. Squeeze the lever
Fire-Extinguisher-Pass-Sweep 4. Sweep side to side.

How to use a fire extinguisher for car fires?

If the intended use is for car fires, take extra caution as car fires are very hard to handle even for SCDF. Car fires happen because of poor electrical wiring. As a result, when you accelerate, a great amount of heat and smoke is generated. The horrible smell of smoke is the first cue that a car fire is about to happen.

1. When you smell smoke, immediately turn on your hazard lights and safely stop by the side of the road.
2. Turn off the vehicle and grab your fire extinguisher.
3. Open up the bonnet and raise it up very slowly. Raising up the bonnet too quickly may instead give the fire more oxygen to grow bigger.
4. If a fire or smoke has appeared, immediately fully discharge the fire extinguisher without hesitation.
In the event if the fire extinguisher did not put out the fire, no matter how small it looks, call SCDF immediately. The fire can and will grow big quickly.

How do I maintain a fire extinguisher?

According to the Singapore Fire Code, all non-personal use fire extinguishers must be maintained annually by a trained technician of a workshop registered with SCDF. You are able to make an appointment with Fire Armour to service your fire extinguishers.

For personal use fire extinguishers, owners can check the fire extinguisher’s pressure gauge. When the needle is pointed to the green zone, it allows the owner to know that the fire extinguisher is generally in good working condition.

Does this fire extinguisher expire?

Fire extinguishers do not expire like food. Every 5 years, fire extinguishers are to undergo a full pressure test. In theory, if the fire extinguisher were to undergo a full pressure test every 5 years and assuming it has been kept in a reasonably clean environment, it can last indefinitely. However, this is rare in reality as it is simply more economical to purchase a new piece every 5 years.

As SCDF requires all fire extinguishers to be maintained annually, a one year expiry sticker is affixed to every fire extinguisher that we sell. When the date has lapsed, it does not mean that the fire extinguisher has to be disposed. Instead, simply bring it to us here to service your fire extinguishers and the expiry date can be extended. This rule does not affect fire extinguisher that are for personal use.
